How can we remain indifferent to the charismatic personality of John Paul II, whether we are believers or not? Stéphane Bern goes to Poland, to the heart of the old town of Krakow, to explore the intimate and personal journey of the man who will become, to everyone’s amazement, the first non-Italian pope in 450 years. In this episode, viewers will follow in the footsteps of little Karol Wojtyla and discover his modest birthplace, in the small town of Wadowice. When he lost his mother at the age of 9, young Karol was deeply influenced by Catholic and traditional Polish culture. At the same time as his vocation, he will discover human, social and political problems.
